Bill Evans won many awards and polls for his recordings. The Grammy Awards (Gramophone Awards) are named for the trophy: a small, gilded gramophone statuette. The awards are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) of the United States for outstanding achievements in the record industry. He won the award seven times and was nomitated thirty-one times for a Grammy Award. In 1958 Bill Evans is chosen "New Star" pianist in the Downbeat International Jazz Critics Poll. Later he won six times the Down Beat Critics Polls (1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1968 and the "Hall Of Fame" in 1981) and the Down Beat Readers Poll in 1964. Bill Evans was also distinguished posthumously. Moreover he won outside the United States several music awards. in 2010 the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry honors Bill Evans with the box set "The Complete Village Vanguard Recordings: Bill Evans Trio". All five sets performed by the Bill Evans Trio on June 25, 1961, at the Village Vanguard club in New York City were recorded, resulting in what are recognized as some of the greatest live recordings in the history of jazz. |
