The DVD of the Bill Evans Trio with Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell In The Jazz Set 1972 released by VAP in Japan was broadcasted before in September 1971, by NJN New Jersey Public Television and Radio. The Universal Mind Of Bill Evans contains an interview with Bill Evans, who teaches the meaning of jazz, through live performance. The registration is filmed as an informal, engaging discussion between Bill Evans and his brother Harry who was professor of music at Louisiana State University. This documentary features in-depth discussion of Evans' internal process of song interpretation, improvisation, and repertoire. Through demonstration on the piano, Bill illustrates his own conception of solo piano and how to interpret and expand upon the melody and underlying chord structure. The DVD Bill Evans Live '64-'75 from the Jazz Icons Series was recently releasead in 2008 with a foreword written by his stepdaughter Maxine Evans and an interview by his former bassist Chuck Israels. The Umbria DVD was recorded during the Umbria Jazz Festival, Umbria, Italy, July 19,1978 with Bill Evans, Marc Johnson, Philly Joe Jones and Lee Konitz on "Solar" only. The second part of the DVD is a studio rehearsal at the Funkhaus, Hamburg, Germany, February 12, 1972 with Bill Evans, Eddie Gómez, Marty Morell and Herb Geller on alto sax & flutes.
The Bill Evans Trio in Helsinki contains a true rarity, a film made in 1970 in the home of Finnish composer and conductor Ilkka Kuussisto, when the Bill Evans Trio visited him for a private performance. Ilkka Taneti Kuusisto, son of Taneli Kuusisto (organist and composer), studied organ at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He also studied composition. In 1958 he went to New York to study organ with Seth Bingham, and continued later his studies in Germany and Vienna. Initially the videotapes have been put on YouTube, but later removed. Eddie Gomez played bass and Marty Morell drums. Also three rare interviews with the family and friends are included. Audio extracts of the interviews can you listen here. They played Emily, Alfie and Nardis. The DVD includes also as a bonus The Universal Mind Of Bill Evans with the conversations with his brother Harry from 1966.
